why are dumbbells called dumbbells?well back in Tudor England, athletes used to train with
real church bells. And since training with real bells would have caused a hell lot of noise pollution, they took the dingdongthings out from the bell (otherwise known as clappers). Hence, the church bells could no longer make sounds, effectively rendering them dumb. Thus dumbbells became known as 'dumbbells'.
In Russia, they athletes trained with imba heavy kettlebells, a cast-iron weight that resembles a cannon ball spouting a handle. "Kettlebell workouts are intended to increase strength, endurance, agility and balance, challenging both the muscular and cardiovascular system with dynamic, total-body movements."
